← Back: Ali Qapu Gate of Qazvin

Key features and highlights

The Ali Qapu Gate formed the principal entrance to the Safavid palace precinct of Qazvin. Commissioned in the era of Shah Tahmasp and modified later, it preserves an imposing arched portal, calligraphy and decorative work that announced the authority of the royal complex. Its position at the beginning of historic Sepah Street helps visitors understand the planned connection between government, ceremony and the city.

To understand the place more fully, observe its defining details: landform, scenery and vegetation at natural sites, or planning, materials, decoration and engineering at historic monuments. These features show how natural forces or builders responded to climate and setting. Do not touch fragile surfaces, cross barriers or enter closed and unstable areas.
