Key features and highlights

Saad al-Saltaneh is one of Qazvin most important historic complexes and a major urban caravanserai of Iran. Courtyards, covered passages, chambers, domes and elaborate brickwork reveal the scale of commerce in the Qajar city. The complex forms part of the UNESCO-listed Persian Caravanserais and now contains cultural and commercial spaces. A slow walk through its connected courts best reveals the changing light, acoustics and architectural hierarchy.

To understand the place more fully, observe its defining details: landform, scenery and vegetation at natural sites, or planning, materials, decoration and engineering at historic monuments. These features show how natural forces or builders responded to climate and setting. Do not touch fragile surfaces, cross barriers or enter closed and unstable areas.
